Your life span is deter­mined by a com­plex mix of hered­ity, lifestyle and envi­ron­ment. The way you man­age your body, mind and spirit affects how you feel as you age.

It serves to rea­son, and is well doc­u­mented, that one’s atti­tude toward aging can influ­ence future health.
Look­ing for sound advice for increased longevity and liv­ing the best life? Maybe just a reminder of what we already know.

Bal­ance Work and Play. “All work and no play make Jack a dull boy” has merit. Nur­ture your spirit with activ­i­ties and life expe­ri­ences that feed the inner fire.

Laugh More. Hav­ing a sense of humor allows our human kind­ness to shine. Laugh­ing lends per­spec­tive on life’s daily chal­lenges. Relax and lighten up with a good chuckle to mit­i­gate anger and frus­tra­tion which increase stress and raise blood pres­sure.

Social­ize over and above what seems nec­es­sary. Keep your social bonds strong. Hav­ing a depend­able group of friends and fam­ily is one of the most reli­able pre­dic­tors of longevity. Reg­u­larly shar­ing meals with fam­ily or friends is ben­e­fi­cial.

Prac­tice pre­ven­tive health care. Main­tain­ing good health habits and seek­ing pro­fes­sional care when needed is tan­ta­mount self-​love.

Exer­cise daily. Try to get in at least thirty min­utes of phys­i­cal activ­ity each day. Take it in smaller bites if need be.

Eat your veg­gies. Fresh fruits and veg­eta­bles con­tribute to a bal­anced diet, good nutri­tion and per­fect fuel for the body. Pay atten­tion to what you eat, snack on and how food is pre­pared. Read the nutri­tion labels. Garbage in equals garbage out.

Reduce Stress. It’s a known killer. Over time, stress increases the risk of car­dio­vas­cu­lar dis­ease. How we react to stress is key. Elim­i­nate toxic peo­ple and cir­cum­stances where pos­si­ble.

Keep your brain in shape. Use it or lose it applies here. Life­long learn­ing is an impor­tant jour­ney.

We’re never to old to change. Liv­ing long and being pros­per­ous begins today.
